24-105mm F4L CANON EF USM (77) AUTO FOCUS STANDARD ZOOM LENS (LN)

Most probably the best walk around lens for fullframe canon body, this lens is often sold as a bundle with the 5D. If you classify this as a "kit lens" then it is definitely the more expensive and high quality kit lens made. Just the red ring around the lens, its indication of an L lens and assurance of its image quality. As expected of an L lens, images are very sharp wide open at F4, with high contrast maintained in various lighting situation. But apart from image quality, which is to be expected of a lens of this price, it would be interesting to note the good range the lens covers, which is from rather wide, to tele, definitely an advantage over the 24-70F2.8L, apart from that, the IS also proves to be very useful. The F2.8L may be one stop faster, but the IS allows the users to easily shoot at shutter speeds 3 stops less than they can without the IS.

Despite the red ring, constant aperture, lens quality and IS, this lens remains one of the most afforable L lens, probably due to a higher number being sold on the used market, which is really a good thing for consumers. In recent times, this lens has also been discovered to be a god send for travel video with the 5D markII, the IS remains working in video mode and really gives some stabilized video, as though multi thousand dollar steadycam setups were being used. Lens had been sent to canon for service and calibration. Rest assured to be getting the best resolution and sharpness possible with this lens. Comes with original hood as well.

Shots above will testify to the quality and usefulness of the lens. Both shots taken wide open, the food shot also shows the macro function of the lens. Omitting the need to carry a separate macro lens for travel. This shot was also taken in a dim place, helped by the 3 stops IS of the lens. Mountain shot was taken wide open on a train.
