Amongst the nikon primes from 20mm F2.8 to 85mm, the 24mm F2.8 AFD is one of the most rarely seen in the local used lens market, making it rather sought after, especially for users who like the 24mm perspective. Despite being 4mm apart from both a 20mm or a 28mm lens, the 24mm offers a unique perspective which is different from both 2 other focal lengths. A good transition point between ultrawide and wide, the 24mm is actually a favourite focal length among many photographers.
On film or fullframe camera bodies, the 24mm is one of the best trade offs between going wider and the wide angle distortion, which tend not too look fantastic when using for group shots. The well known nikon CRC (close range correction) incorporated into this lens ensures top notch image quality even when shooting wide open and at the minimum focusing distance of 0.3m. From our test, this lens proves to be very sharp even at F2.8, have full confidence shooting wide open in lower lighting conditions, such as in city area with alot of night lights.
Another advantage of this lens is its very small size, in fact it is even smaller than the AFD 50mm F1.8, making it very portable and easily to carry around in the bag. The fact that it uses 52mm filters also make CPLs, UV, ND, GND filters, which are crucial for landscape photography cheaply available.
