One of legendary Tamron lenses from the yesteryears, this is one lens model that tamron got it so right that it holds its fanbase and supporters compared to original models from canon, nikon, or even minolta. There is also alot of online discussions claiming that the older F2.5 design is superior than the new F2.8 one in the current AF incarnations of this lens. Not only because of the additional 1/3 stop, but also in terms of image quality.

The design is slightly newer and updated to an older fully metallic one, the use of some plastics reduces the weight slightly, together with the very nicely damped touch in turning the focus ring, which is designed with a generous amount to rotate, ensuring very precised manual focusing. This is very useful for closeup shooting, since depth of field gets very thin the closer you get between the lens and subject, together with the telephoto and large aperture of the lens. The clear window also nicely displays the distance you can focusing at, together with the magnification.

Image quality is fabulous, expect nothing less than very sharp and contrasty image wide open at F2.5, be it shooting far or close up. Placed in the hands of someone who knows who to really work it, this lens can definitely be used to produce some fantastic award winning image. The thin depth of field by the lens can be easily manipulated to provide the impression of separation, such as in the image shown below.
